CHARACTER NAME: Oliver
AGE: 17
APPEARANCE: Here, and here. To add on to what my drawings don't show, he's thin, perhaps a little underweight, as he often forgets to eat, and he stands at 5'6".
BRIEF WORLD INFO: Oliver's world is pretty much like our world. As he lives in our era, vehicles, computers, televisions, and video games all exist in this world. He and his friends live in North America, and attend university. There is no magic, nothing fantastical originating from Oliver's world.

There is, however, an organization that seeks to eliminate its enemies through biological warfare. They have immense power over the country, economically and military-wise. To most, it would seem as if they are doing nothing wrong, but they have started to develop a special kind of virus that can freely mutate to emulate the symptoms of other deadly diseases, and the symptoms usually end at death. They are currently testing this virus on patients in certain hospitals.

Oliver's world is also connected to other worlds, and it falls under the jurisdiction of the Planeswalkers, a society of people who have the ability to travel between worlds without any sort of mechanical aid, using only their own energy to transport themselves between worlds. Their job is to maintain the balance of all worlds and ensure the survival of the universe. They do this by eliminating rogue Planeswalkers and the odd Forgotten, who don't have parallel selves or even a presence. Currently, two Planeswalkers and two rogues are in Oliver's world. However, they will have absolutely no bearing on Exit Void.

BRIEF CHARACTER HISTORY: Oliver was like any normal child in a modern world. He was born in a wealthy family with three siblings. An older brother, Richard, an older sister, Rachel, and a younger sister, Renee, whom he took a special shine to. He had friends, and went to private school. Everything was normal, everything was great, and he was very happy. However, that all changed one day. Close to her seventh birthday, Renee passed out suddenly, and was rushed to the hospital. It was deemed as nothing serious, and she recovered quickly and easily from her illness. Life continued on as normal, with no one the wiser as to the tragedy that would befall them soon.

Though he was a year younger than his childhood friend Remiel, they were both in the same grade, and both went into the same university, with Remiel at age 18 while Oliver was 17. Soon after he entered university, Renee suddenly fell seriously ill, and nothing the doctors did helped her. They tried every single method they could find, but none of it worked, and surrounded by friends and family, she died a week after she fell ill.

Friends and family alike were devastated, but none more so than Oliver, who cherished Renee the most. He became depressed, confining himself into his room, not even coming out at his family's urging. It took weeks, but finally Remiel managed to get Oliver to leave his room, if only to attend school and maintain his marks. To his luck, on that very day, a very important pendant had been lost. The pendant of the keeper of time, Miet. It had been dropped by his twin brother Kalio, who had been in a hurry at the time. Oliver found on the way back from school, picking it up not because he had been drawn to it or anything, but rather, his mind was elsewhere, and he barely registered picking up an object that looked like it had been dropped recently. He took it home with him, and went to sleep, never examining it. Like usual, as he went to sleep, he wished that he could turn back time and spend more time with his sister.

However, what was not usual was the pendant's reaction to that wish. It granted Oliver's wish and sent him back through time, back to the day of Renee's birth. He woke up as a seven year old, not as a seventeen year old as he would have expected. At first, he was confused, wondering if this was a dream. It soon became apparent that it wasn't a dream, and he searched for the reason for this occurrence. That was when he finally noticed and examined the pendant which had followed him back into the past. He opened the pendant, and discovered that, oddly, it had a picture of his family in there, something that shouldn't be there. As it was the only anomaly to this day that had already occurred for him, he determined that it was the cause of this time travel, and decided to keep it close, in case he would have to use it again.

And that was a good choice. After spending a year with his sister again, as a baby, he decided he'd try to save her life by becoming an expert in diseases. He began his study right then and there, at the young age of eight. However, he was unable to learn enough before Renee's death again, and with the pendant, rewound time. He did this over and over again, becoming more and more determined to save his sister with each rewind. Though he was determined, he did not fail to notice the differences between each timeline, such as Remiel acting differently, and students in his class that definitely were not there in the previous timelines. However, he ignored it, chalking it up to changes due to his own actions.

During his thirtieth rewind, however, the unthinkable happened. Renee's illness came earlier than expected, and it was not the one she had previously. All of Oliver's hard work to find the cure for her previous illness was for naught. The next rewind, too, held a different illness, at a different time. The same happened for the next, and the next, and Oliver began to suspect that something was wrong. There was no way his actions could cause her illness to change like that. So in the fortieth rewind, while still studying medicine, he began to search for the reason for Renee's mysteriously changing illness. Even now, at the fifty third rewind, he continues search for the answer. He'll be pulled right as he tries to rewind time for the fifty third time.

PERSONALITY: To strangers and acquaintances, a stick in the mud would be the perfect term to describe the shorter than average boy. The first impression one would get from him is that he's a serious, no-nonsense person. He hardly smiles, never seems pleased, and outright ignores any sort of annoyance. Jokes don't go well with him, and even his friends have called him a party pooper. He doesn't generally become irritated, but a continual annoyance can lead to biting insults.

However, that is only his outward appearance. Yes, he's quite serious, and sometimes he can be a mood killer, but he's not as horrible as he seems. The determination to save his sister is what truly fuels his actions and manners. Even though he's given pretty much infinite time to save her, he still views pretty much everything unrelated to his sister's illness as a waste of time, and thus acts in accordance with that view. He doesn't mean any harm by it, but his strong desire to find the reason behind his sister's mysterious illness overrides any notion of etiquette and politeness.

One of his greatest dislikes are people who waste their time doing nothing. To him, doing nothing is like wasting the life they're blessed with, something his sister could not get to enjoy thanks to her terminal disease. He treats these type of people with more disdain, insulting and belittling them more than usual. He's a little more lenient to close friends, but may occasionally speak with them harshly to get them moving. He also dislikes most people who give his little sister funny looks, or harm or displease her. In other words, he's an overprotective-- and that is an understatement-- big brother.

Underneath the cold demeanor, Oliver is a gentle soul whose kindness and loving was tempered by the death of his little sister, Renee, in his first lifetime. To closer friends, he will reveal part of this personality, usually responding to his friends with less bite than he would with strangers and acquaintances. He's poor at dealing with feelings, occasionally reacting to teases from friends with embarrassment and denial, and sometimes child-like anger. He's also socially awkward, having been mostly reclusive throughout all his rewinds. However, the appearance of this aspect of his personality is quite rare; he's almost always preoccupied with thoughts about his sister's well-being. He's fiercely loyal to his close friends and family, his numerous repeats of life having taught him to cherish everything he has. He'll do almost anything to keep them safe, healthy and happy, even if it means he has to suffer.

ABILITIES: Oliver is quite adept in the sciences, particularly the biological sciences. He's excellent at identifying diseases and illnesses, and is just as good as finding a cure, given the right tools. Due to his great mental age from repeating his life many times, he's pretty sharp and logical. This only relates to situations that don't involve emotions though, for instance when being attacked by monsters, or when talking about tactics or analyzing the situation from a logical perspective. When it comes to dealing with things like friendship or love, he almost always fails to properly understand the situation.

Oliver has horrible stamina and a weak body. Not so weak that any injury would have a major effect on him, but he bruises easily, he doesn't have any strength or power, he can barely run any distance without winding up out of breath in like ten seconds. This is mostly due to the fact that he doesn't regularly exercise, and he skips meals and sleep.

The only special power he has comes from the pendant he owns. This pendant is actually owned by the keeper of time, Miet, but his twin brother Kalio lost it, and Oliver found it. The pendant has the ability to travel to the past in a sense. What it actually does is take the soul of the pendant's user back through time, and into their past self's body. However, when used improperly, it may take more than just the user's soul back through time. For the purposes of Exit Void, the pendant will be disabled, so technically he really has no special ability.

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE:
[The feed flickered on to show a young man with dirty blonde hair, and tired green eyes. He was sitting on a bed, with one hand gingerly prodding the bruise on the right of his forehead. After a second or two, he let his hand fall to his lap and sighed irritatedly, before focusing on the screen.]

Let's cut to the chase. What must we do to get out of this place? What are these “missions” Kernos wants us to do? Who, or what is Kernos? If anyone could answer, or at least provide a little insight on any of my questions, it'd be appreciated.

[He stared at the screen for a few more seconds, and then ended the feed.]

EXTRA JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLES: Here, and here.

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE:What Oliver was expecting was the feeling of the soft fabric of his blanket, a comfortable mattress, and his smaller, seven year old body. Instead, he was still seventeen years old, in his usual button up shirt, pants and green vest, and he was lying face down on the hard ground. He pushed himself quickly and opened his eyes. This wasn't his home. In fact, it wasn't even inside a building. Oliver stared at his surroundings. The sky was grey, trees, gnarly and leafless, and there were stones jutting out of the floor in random spots. Where was he? This certainly wasn't anywhere near home. Had the pendant brought him here? No, it couldn't be. It had never malfunctioned before, so it stood to reason that another force brought him to this place. It was alright though, he could use the pendant to return to the past, and thus avoid this problem.

The first thing he noticed when he pulled out the pendant was that there was a crack on the gem embedded on the front of the accessory. Thinking it had been caused by his transportation to this unknown location, he ignored it, and, after pocketing the slip of paper in his left hand, clasped it between his hands, and closed his eyes, thinking of his little sister, Renee. After a few seconds, he opened his eyes in confusion. How come nothing was happening? Examining the pendant again, he noticed that the cracked gem was dull and faded, not bright and gleaming as it usually was. Slowly, his confusion turned into panic, and he examined the pendant from different angles. Other than the cracked gem, there was nothing else out of the ordinary about the little accessory. Finally, he opened it, and to his utter horror, it no longer contained a picture of his family within. The pendant was broken.

His thoughts started to jumble into a mess, as question after question popped into his mind. How did the pendant break? Did it have something to do with this place? Was he never going to be able to return home? Would he never see his family and friends again? Was all the pain and suffering he went through for nothing?

It was at that moment that a large rock hit him in the forehead and knocked him over. Oliver let out a yell of pain and clutched the area that was hit. He sat up quickly, looked around wildly to find the source of the rock, and found a grotesque monster staring straight at him. It was holding another large rock, and looked ready to launch it at him. Realizing he was in danger, Oliver searched for safe cover, got up, and ran for it. It was difficult, and inwardly he cursed at himself for not maintaining his own health. He was hit again, this time in the leg, and faltered a little, almost tripping over the rocks jutting from the ground. But he continued running, out of breath, and the mess of thoughts from before having cleared up to one, prominent thought. He had to survive. He had to survive, and get back home. So he ran, he ran harder than he ever had, intent on doing exactly that.
